Innovative ideas to improve children’s writing

Our Story

Our team has centuries of combined teaching, tutoring, home learning & writing experience.

We are teachers & writers

Currently, our writing prompt contributors hail from the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, India, South Africa and La Gomera.

Scribblebibble HQ is a bespoke artisan custom eco garden office, otherwise known as a shed. Here, a complicated tangle of cables sends and receives video calls and emails from around the world.

Our ScribbleEwe helps keep the grass lawn tidy. We use biodegradable edible paper and our ScribbleHippo eats draft ideas – with a dollop of Morello cherry conserve if they’re good, or a smear of fig pate if they’re not.

Scribblebibble was founded in 2020 by The ScribbleMeister. Little is known about this mysterious character who apparently loves green crushed velvet and has a phobia of jumbo cords.

We are eco-friendly

Our eco-friendly webhost works with forestry organisations to plant trees for each website, as well as other Gold Standard projects.

They have planted over 22,400 trees so far in England.

Our chosen ISP is committed to a green future:

“BT.com led the way by setting a science-based carbon reduction target in 2008 and we’ve since reduced our carbon emissions by 80%.

We have a commitment to be net zero by 2045 and will play our part in helping the UK to dramatically reduce its carbon footprint.

It is time for all businesses to join us on this road to net zero and to make 2020 the year of climate action.”

What Scribblebibble would like to achieve:

  • To help put creative writing a the forefront of education and learning.
  • To develop Scribblebibble writing prompts for every genre, audience and writing purpose.
  • To review and help develop educational resources to ensure creative writing is accessible and exciting for all children, regardless of ability, gender or background.

We’d love to see a world where:

  • Children look forward to writing and relish presenting or performing their work.
  • Children are confident writers.
  • English, literacy and language arts lessons are looked forward to.
  • Every school operates workshops, visiting authors and engagement programs.
  • No writer is left behind. Writing doesn’t have to involve a pen. Words can be recorded using voice, keyboards, computers, mobile devices and video.
  • Reading and performing original work aloud is encouraged and celebrated.
Scribblebibble believes that:

  • Creative writing at school and at home should be fun.
  • We believe that children’s creativity, expression and originality should not be penalized for mistakes in grammar or spelling.
  • Creative writing should offer children a change to explore their ideas, feeling, beliefs and dreams. It shouldn’t be a contrived curricula checklist.
  • Although important, we believe proof-reading and editing are separate skills that can be taught and practised, whereas creative writing requires praise, encouragement and performance to build a child’s confidence.
  • We believe writing should be assessed using practical and real world criteria. Did this story make you think? Did this essay change your mind? Did this poem evoke an emotion? Did this description capture the atmosphere? Did this explanation make life easier? Did this pitch sell a product?
  • Editing, grammar and spelling are the icing. This website is about baking a great cake.
