Common Questions
Help! The videos won't play!
There may be a number of reasons for this. Teachers may need to use their school’s filter “bypass” to enable videos to play. Or you could ask your network administrator to ‘whitelist’ these domains: youtube-nocookie.com, youtube.com and vimeo.com which are the platforms we normally use for embedded videos. We’ve tried to use cookie free or advertisement free options wherever possible to maximise this website’s compatibility and compliance with most school network policies.
Will you publish my story?
We’re not a publisher, and we don’t post stories on this site due to copyright reasons, user-generated content laws and privacy permissions such as COPPA, GDPR, PIPEDA, the Australian Privacy Act 1998, the Online Safety Act 2023 and the UK Data Protection Act 1998. However, if teachers want to send us a link to students’ work on a school website, or if parents want to send us a link to their child’s story on their social media we’ll happily take a look and we might feature a link on this site or our social media. Keeping your student’s work on your school website or social media is much better since you are in full control of the visibility of your child’s work.
Can I mail you something?
No, because don’t own or rent a building! This is by design – as modern internet operation, we believe email is a cleaner, more carbon efficient and more ecologically sound mode of communication.
Can I phone you?
No! Because we’re a creative writing website, we love the written word! And since our last carrier pigeon flew away due to global warming, all our communication is now by email. If you really love phones, listen to “Telephone Line” by ELO, “Telephone and Rubber Band” by Penguin Cafe Orchestra, “I Just Called to Say I Love You” by Stevie Wonder or “Sylvia’s Mother” by Dr. Hook.
Who are you? What's your name?
We use pseudonyms or pen names in a long-established writing tradition that includes Mark Twain, Dr Seuss, George Eliot, Lewis Caroll, George Orwell, Reginald Foosbarton, Richard Bachman, Lemony Snickett, Robert Galbraith, E.L. James and the Traveling Wilburys.
Do you receive public funding?
No, we are privately funded and independent. Our eco web hosting facilities have been generously donated.
How can I remove video ads?
While we’ve taken all reasonable steps to stop or limit adverts on the videos we embed, sometimes it’s not possible remove all of them. The ads have nothing to do with us – they are served by YouTube or Vimeo, or hardcoded into the videos. What we’ve done is tried to pick videos from channels that tend not to use ads, and embed using privacy compliant techniques to help improve the user experience.
As a user, there are three ways in which you can prevent ads from displaying:
- Â Use YouTube premium to watch videos without ads on the YouTube platform.
- Use an ad blocker to prevent ads from displaying. There are lots of approved and free browser extensions for Chrome, Edge and Firefox available. There are ad blocking extensions for Safari available in the Apple App Store.
- Use a phone or mobile device to watch the videos. Ads don’t normally display on phones.
What are your goals?
We want every child to write, to enjoy writing, and to use writing to inspire others.
Can I send you a video?
Yes, we’re happy to receive links to videos and short films hosted on Vimeo or YouTube that allow for sharing and embedding on websites. If you have an idea or concept for a new Scribblebibble, let us know!
Can I send you a photo?
We’re happy to receive links to images available on a public domain basis, applicable Creative Commons attribution licenses; or hosted on Pixabay, Unsplash or Pexels. If you have a visual idea for a Scribblebibble, do let us know!
Can I advertise on your site?
We don’t operate paid advertisements; paid promotions; publish guest articles; accept paid links or advertorials for fake news, blatant lies, monumental whoppers, Pinnochio-style product placements, scandalous scams; or anything else that search engines, advertising watchdogs, institutional filters or actual real people tend to dislike. Sorry.
While we do not use advertising, from time to time, when we recommend resources, books or other products, we may receive affiliate payments. When this is the case, it is clearly indicated on the page in question and also in our affiliates policy.
We choose our affiliate partners very carefully based on relevance, expertise, quality, ethics and ecological awareness. We don’t respond to cold-call emails.
If you want us to consider a writing app, resource, book or other product, let us know by email and we will then consider it on its merits based on our own research. We won’t accept payment or free products for review.
Can I send you spam?
Please don’t send us spam. Much as we like this delightful canned product with Monty Python associations, we prefer baklava, Turkish Delight or tangy lemon cheesecake with a biscuit base that’s at least an inch thick.
